Sadie's Gift

The Rug was born from the desire to come together as a commuity and through hearts and hands to create something of long-lasting beauty.

​

The combined efforts of over Fifty Women and One Man used the ancient techniques of felting engaging their hands and feet to manipulate wool fibres.

​

Forty-two people took away handfuls of multiple coloured hand dyed wool and came back with beautifully crafted squares which were incorporated into a harmonious rainbow inspired design.

 

  Using techniques that were developed over 5,000 years ago Eighty-four hands and Fifty-six feet were used as the tools to transform the fibres by applying water, heat, soap and pressure.  Agitation of the fibres was accomplished by rubbing and rolling the fibres until they became enmeshed, matted and entangled creating a fabric that is strong and durable.

Felting brings the wool fibres together building strength and beauty and in much the same way the combined efforts of so many has brought our small community together acting as a barrier against the current world situation while creating a space for joy and beauty to thrive.

The Rug as taken over 1,000 hours from start to finish.
