Attention Members
SCW has planned a Special Event to launch our
“ 50th Anniversary Celebration Year”.

At our regular meeting on January 8, 2026, Dr. Jennifer Salahub will give a talk entitled “Why You Are Important: Navigating Between the Mercurial Demands of Tradition and Innovation”. Dr Salahub will interweave stories about our guild, other arts and fibre arts organizations, and the culture of Alberta.
Currently, Dr. Salahub is a Professor in Critical and Creative Studies at the Alberta College of Art and Design. She is well known for her well researched, interesting, and entertaining engagement with her subject.

Our Annual Sale "From the Hands of Makers" was held on October 18 and 19
Members of the Sheep Creek Weavers prepared all year to stock our annual fundraising sale with high quality hand crafted items from all of our various fibre arts interests. This year's sale featured 5 silent auction items (below) and 5 raffle baskets full of hand-made treasures.
Thanks to everyone who came to see us and supported our guild.

Sheep River Library Display
Forty-nine members of SCW contributed samples of a variety of both individual and group projects that were on display at the library in September, 2025.

To be sold by silent auction at the SCW annual sale October 18 & 19.

This is a small sampling of the talents that were on display.
Joanie Chisholm lead an Eco Printing Workshop on September 12 & 13, 2025 in the beautiful countryside. Using natural plant material, participants learned how to up-cycle clothing. They were taught how to select plants and fabrics, how to make a dirty pot dye bath and how to print and care for their creations. As you can see below, the results were stunning.

Fleece to Shawl 2025
On August 16 and 17 a Fleece to Shawl demonstration and competition was held at the Priddis and Millarville Fair. Starting from raw fibre, participants from the Sheep Creek Weavers and the Heritage Spinners and Weavers from Calgary competed to complete hand-woven shawls. Two shawls and a scarf crafted by the Sheep Creek Weavers were sold through silent auction at the SCW fibre arts sale "From the Hands of Makers" which took place on October 18 and 19.

In the Community
While at the fair, volunteers from SCW assisted children (and some parents) to learn how to throw the shuttle for their very first weaving experience using a plain weave warp on the Saiori loom.

The results of the day are featured in the scarf seen here which was made by many hands.
