Workshop Title: Out of the blue


Format: In Person

Workshop Description: Spend the day playing with indigo! Together, we will make two indigo vats, the ferrous sulphate, and the workhorse vat, to produce a series of indigo and shibori samples from each vat and finish by overdyeing our indigo swatches with weld and cochineal to produce beautiful shades of green and purple. This workshop is for everyone; no experience is necessary! All materials included. Recipes and notes are provided; please bring paper & a pen for notes.


This is for people that did not get into the June class. Please DO NOT sign up for both classes.

Bring gloves, an apron paper and pencil.

All material will be provided. This includes vats, shibori materials, dyes and fabric.

About the Instructor: Jolie Bird's artistic approach is deeply rooted in materiality, exploring the contrasts and tensions that emerge through various techniques and processes. Her practice incorporates simple yet labour-intensive techniques, diverse mediums, installation, and performance. Bird earned an MFA in Craft in 2013, and currently works as the Educational Art Technician in the Fibre Program and AU Arts.
